Passivhaus
What is Passivhaus
Passivhaus (or Passive House) is a world-leading standard in energy-efficient building design that originated in Germany. The fundamental principle behind Passivhaus is to create buildings that minimise the need for active heating or cooling systems. By combining high quality building materials including our high-performance windows alongside with design strategies, Passivhaus buildings maintain a consistent indoor temperature with minimal energy use – while delivering exceptional comfort and indoor air quality.
Whether it’s a home, school, or commercial space, Passivhaus design offers lower energy bills, a reduced carbon footprint, and a healthier, quieter living environment.
Benefits
Passivhaus in the UK
Passivhaus is gaining real momentum across the UK. As of 2025, there are over 2,250 certified Passivhaus homes nationwide, with more than 8,000 additional homes currently aiming for certification. That’s around 1% of all new housing projects, and the number is growing rapidly.
This shift reflects a broader commitment to energy efficiency, lower carbon footprints, and high-performance living environments as approximately 30% of the UKs CO2 emissions comes from residential homes. The UK Passivhaus community is expanding—and we’re proud to be part of the movement, fabricating Passivhaus windows here in our factory in South Wales.
